Oil Pulling 101 – Cruelty Free & Vegan

Oil Pulling 101

Oil Pulling

If it’s good enough for Gwyneth Paltrow, it’s good enough for me. Seeing as how Valentine’s Day is upon us, I wanted to do a quick post on a natural remedy to make sure our mouth health is in check … just in case a kissing opportunity comes up. I have heard about oil pulling through various health websites over the last few years and reading everything makes sense. I have briefly tried oil pulling before, but unfortunately didn’t stick with it, with all the things I have coming up in 2018 I want to give it a second go and hope for better results. Sometimes I suffer from bleeding gums and a bad habit I have developed is that I don’t visit the dentist often enough, not out of fear, more so out of laziness, so I am actually booked to go in next week.

What Is Oil Pulling?

The mouth is home to millions of bacteria, viruses and other toxins and oil pulling acts like a cleanser to the mouth pulling everything that need not be there out before it has a chance to spread.

The Benefits of Oil Pulling

Oil Pulling has many different benefits, so I am surprised it is not a more common thing done by all. Some of the benefits include ….

Natural method whiten teeth…Keep trying for two weeks to notice this difference.
Increased energy. Due to the fact that most toxins that start in the body form in the mouth. Why not try to keep it as clean as possible to prevent any further toxins forming and save energy that that the immune system would otherwise use filtering out the nasty toxins and can use the energy for other uses.
Detoxes the body. Again by stopping the toxins and germs where they start you are helping to keep your body clean and clear.
Promotes oral health and hygiene. Oil pulling reduces tooth cavities and helps to keep bad breath at bay by removing bacteria and micro-organisms from the teeth and gums.

  • Prevent gum disease.

Method

That all sounds good Saoirse, so how to we go about doing this ?

  • Get a tablespoon of cold pressed oil in your mouth and swish it around for 5 – 20 minutes.
  • Swish all over your mouth and in and out of your teeth and even the little gaps in between.
  • Make sure you do not swallow any of the oil as you will be swallowing all the nasties that come with it from cleaning your mouth.
  • Spit down the toilet.
