Movie Review – Annabelle

 

Plot

12 years after the tragic death of their little girl, a dollmaker and his wife welcome a nun and several girls from a shuttered orphanage into their home, where they soon become the target of the dollmaker’s possessed creation, Annabelle.

My Thoughts

I have loved all the films from this particular Ed & Lorraine Warren franchise….mostly due to how much I love Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson, I think they have an amazing on screen presence – especially together, unfortunately they are not brought into ‘Annabelle’. The couple leading the show this time are Annabelle Wallis and Ward Horton and they do a fantastic job.

Now, on to my actual thought regarding the movie. The film will definitely give you a few jumps and thrills with some movements in the background and your typical “Don’t go in there!!!!” voice from inside your head. I actually have few little to say about this bar, that is is exactly what you get on the tin – A horror film with many a jump and fright, the only critical thing I could say about it is, that with a certain character….he/she(I don’t know) looks a bit too computerised and up until that character is introduced, the film had me totally hooked on everything that you can’t see, but know is happening. That is actually a huge complement to ‘Annabelle’ and any other film that can do that, give you the ultimate creeps without really knowing?

Fun Facts

• The film is based on real events, but the real Annabelle doll was given to a collage student, Donna by her mother. After a while Donna and her collage room mate noticed the doll moving slightly and then after a few weeks the doll would move to different rooms.
• The doll is kept in a secured glass case, in Lorraine and Ed Warrens home museum.
• The doll we see in the film is not actually like what the real Annabelle doll is like. The real Annabelle doll is a rag doll.
• The apartment in which the couple in this film move into was actually the same apartment building Ellen DeGeneres lived in at one time. On her show se is quoted saying “That looks familiar and it was my building. It was scary back then too”.
